Rectangular panels carved in bas-relief composing a dado. The decoration is typically composed of three horizontal sections, with an inscription in the upper band and with a sequence of interlaced trefoil arches or of Persian horseshoe arches in the mid section. The inscription include a Persian poem, or Arabic benedictory sentences.
Some of the panels have incised marks that are related to the carvers’ practice; they might be location marks.
The artifacts were excavated in the Ghaznavid palace, or found re-employed in the Ghazni area, or recorded in the Rawza Museum and in the Kabul National Museum in the years 1957-1966.
