When we rolled out the carpet of grandeur in the world, we tasted a hundred kinds of nectars from the hand of good fortune. Out of generosity, we acknowledged the results of the last decade (?); seeking honour, we contemplated the abodes of the Nine Heavens. We seated where the pious man were seated, we chose the way that the free man had chosen. We delighted our hears and [others’] with plenty of beautiful words we have pronounced and heard. Like water, we rushed in vain and we passed. Like wind, we blew and waggled without profit. Like the eye of death (?), the fate struck us. We played the flute of soul turned towards the hereafter. We saw that we were oppressed by a hundred calamities, we redeemed ourself for one life against all that. Therefore be aware that, in the world of reward, we got in return everything we gave along the way: They compensated us for the slave we had freed, they rewarded us [for the pain we had suffered. Our only objective was God’s pardon, by God’s grace we attained our purpose!] (Reading by V. Allegranzi)
