Late 12th - early 13th c.

Fragment of a large and thick red monochrome octagonal tile, with lightly oblique edges, cut downward. Medium-fine ceramic body, very similar to the one identified for the glazed vessels of the Ghazni pottery corpus (Fabric no. 25, but coarser with more white inclusions of medium size, probably quartz and calcium carbonate). The red wash unevenly covers the surface, leaving many portions of the relief decoration unslipped; as a result, they acquire an orangish colour. Some parts of the decoration in relief are worn out, with no more slip or glaze. The rear surface is uneven. Moulded relief decoration representing a central lozenge from which there sprout alternately upright long buds and overturned trefoil palmettes, joined together by a fillet to form a wreath. The octagonal frame consists of pseudo-epigraphic bands interspaced with trefoil palmettes. Similar to Sp0043; Sp0045; IG6226; IG6436.
