Moulded relief decorated tile
Fired clay
Mould
5x1 cm
Late 12th - early 13th c.

Fragment of a green monochrome square tile, with lightly oblique edges, cut downward. Fine fabric, identical to the one identified for the glazed vessels of the Ghazni pottery corpus (Fabric no. 25). The front surface partially peeled, with the flaking of both slip and glaze. The rear surface is uneven and rough. Moulded relief decoration probably representing a quadruped (gazelle or felid) in profile, facing the dexter side, showing a large tail raised with a vegetal end; only the latter (?) is preserved. The central motif is enclosed in an octagonal fillet and an outer square frame overlapping. The tile was not pressed into the mould properly, as a result the decoration is in very low relief.
