Late 12th - early 13th c.
Fragment of a yellow monochrome hexagonal tile, in the shape of regular hexagon, with cut straight edges. Fine fabric, identical to the one identified for the glazed vessels of the Ghazni pottery corpus (Fabric no. 25). The rear surface is uneven and rough and bears small shallow depressions/notches, very close each other, made with a tool probably for a firmer bedding of the tile into the architectural surface. Moulded relief decoration, the motif cannot be identified due to the small dimensions of the item. The central motif is framed by a simple fillet. The decoration is rendered in high relief. The tile shows a (post-firing) clean cut, perpendicular to the surfaces, made intentionally; the lower portion of this fracture has been smoothed; the cut was not made through the tile completely, so that the upper portion was broken manually in a far less precise way. Two hypotheses are suggested: the tile was cut to be reused after its breakage or the tile was cut for a proper fit before setting it on the architectural surface.
