Late 12th - early 13th c.
Complete fragmentary brown monochrome square tile, with cut straight edges. The tile is slightly warped. Medium-fine fabric, very similar to the one identified for the glazed vessels of the Ghazni pottery corpus (Fabric no. 25, with more white inclusions, including some sparse large ones). The glaze has yellowish tinges. The rear surface is smooth but partially cracked. Moulded relief decoration representing a running/rampant gazelle in profile, facing the dexter side, with its left forefoot in the air, its left hind foot raised, showing a large tail raised with a vegetal end. The central motif is framed by an octagonal fillet and outer square frame overlapping, the sides of the octagonal fillet extended so as to meet those of the nearby tiles, and form a geometrically intertwining pattern. The clay was unevenly pressed into the mould.
