Late 12th - early 13th c.

Fragment of a green monochrome square tile, with cut straight edges. Fine sandy pale pink fabric, quite similar to the one identified for the glazed vessels of the Ghazni pottery corpus (Fabric no. 25). The glaze is quite good and smooth. The front surface is partially covered by a calcareous deposit. The rear surface is even. Moulded relief decoration representing a central square with concave sides, from its tapered tips there sprout four trefoil palmettes, enclosed in circular fillets; small buds rising from the same fillets fill the triangular spaces between the fillets and the outer square frame. The outer frame is a simple fillet. The pattern is unique, having no equal among the tiles known so far. The relief is high and bold.
